John Steinnes - Advocacy & Campaigns Associate
John Steinnes serves as Advocacy and Campaigns Associate at ICAR, working in the Corporate Capture, Labor Rights, and Trade and Investment programs. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Law in December, 2016 with a J.D. and L.L.M. in sustainable international development. Throughout law school, John interned with Emmal, Skalbania, & Vinnedge, a law firm representing labor unions throughout Washington State. He also represented workers in unemployment hearings while interning with the Unemployment Law Project. As a participant in UW Law’s International Human Rights Clinic, he worked with ICAR to advance human rights and labor protections in Washington State’s procurement system. During his third year, John externed with the Kenyan National Commission on Human Rights where he drafted amici briefs on human rights and constitutional issues to the Constitutional Court of Kenya. John served as co-president of UW Law’s Public Interest Law Association from 2015 to 2016.
Prior to law school, John served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in rural Albania where he organized health education campaigns and community development projects. He also worked as a union organizer for Service Employees International Union, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, and the California Faculty Association.
