California Governor Brown signs conflict minerals legislation into law

Congratulations to California for being the first state to pass a conflict minerals bill!

California’s SB 861 was signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown this past weekend, and activists and those concerned with human rights should be proud.  Voices from all across California came together to organize and to raise awareness of conflict minerals in American products, including in many consumer electronics products.

From the vision of California Senator Ellen Corbett in introducing the bill to the leadership of Governor Jerry Brown in signing it into law; California has set a precedent with other states quick to follow.  In fact, Massachusetts state legislator Martin J. Walsh has introduced a similar conflict minerals bill in his state.

Thank you, California, for leading this movement.
